When Bedtime Goes Badly

There’s been some bedtime trouble at our house.

P.S. There’s a little swearing and I am very loud, turn down the volume.

  1. first of all, you used one of my favorite words, “kerfuffle.”

Aside from that, i think it sounds like a great plan! My oldest is about to turn 14. I told him that for the summer (my kids are already out of school), he could choose his own bedtime. With the understanding that if he a) is a miserable beast from staying up too late, or b) falls asleep on the couch downstairs every night, that the responsibility of choosing his own bedtime reverts back to his dad and me.

So far, so good. *fingers crossed* (for you and me!!)

    • I like your plan very much. So far so good for us too. Bedtimes have been late the last few nights and she’s gone to bed happily in her own bed.

  2. Count me in on the tent. We’re having the same issues here, except it’s the little one keeping the older one awake. By jumping on her bed. While she’s trying to sleep. Maybe the kids just need separate outdoor tents. Or duct tape. I’ve considered that. Good luck.

    • Oh geez! Duct tape is a good idea. Maybe duct taped to a tent?
So far staying up way past bedtime is working for us. But it doesn’t prevent the crying all the next day.

  4. Oh my friend…you need to experience the joys of a SK evening, where it can still be light out at 10pm and the kids do not understand why they have to go to bed while it is still light and the birds are still singing (loudly!). Add to that, that it seems like it starts to become light again at 3-4am (and those blasted birds start up again). Luckily, the kids have amazing shades on their bedroom windows (ugly, but very effective for blocking light).

    • That’s part of the problem right now, there’s a whole cacophony of noise happening at bedtime. And light. We have an ugly shade too but it blows around with the fan. There’s really no winning.

  5. I hate it when my kids are arguing with me about bed time because their friends are still outside playing! ARG. We have these issues too. Kids. Gah!

  6. Nothing makes me throw an f bomb faster than bedtime. Usually before I head upstairs and practice deep calming breaths. Shared rooms are nightmares. Hank and Maren share right now and they are the same age as your girls which you probably know, but every night it’s a fight.

Messed up bedtime makes me crazy, I lose all my cool. I had to bring in my MIL tonight, she was successful.
