Patron Saints: Taking All The Help We Can Get

One of the good people who lives in my computer is plagued with puppies. And I really mean plagued. She lives on a large rural property and while it was great fun when their female dog had a litter of 6 puppies, it wasn’t so fun when 8 more puppies emerged from the woods.

That’s a lot of puppies, and a lot of poop.

To help these lost puppies find homes we searched out the patron Saint of lost puppies to give these little guys all the help they could get. That led us to the master list of patron Saints and Woah! there’s a patron Saint for nearly everything.

I have long sung the virtues of Saint Anthony, patron Saint of lost articles, also barren women, grave diggers, the poor, the harvest, swine herders and Portugal. Sounds a bit like when you read about old uses for herbs: dandelion root cures the flux, women’s disease and splinters. Still when I am in need of a lost thing I say this-

Dear Saint Anthony, please come round, I’ve lost _inserted lost thing here_ and it can’t be found.

Which I am pleased to report, works nearly every time. I suppose it counts as a prayer but not being the praying type or Catholic I call it a rhyme, which has the benefit of finding things.

My success with Saint Anthony, especially his ability to overlook my lack of faith and prayer, made me wonder, are there other Saints that might do the same?
So I searched the list.

While it might be true that I could use a lot of help with a lot of things, I decided to just pick one, St. Lucy, patron Saint of authors, writers, the blind and eye trouble. St. Francis de Sales is also a patron saint of writers but Catholic writers, Catholic press and the deaf. I don’t think he’s for me. St. Lucy sounds like my kind of girl.

Dear St. Lucy, please help me, I’ve got writer’s block and I can’t see.

Yes, I think that will work nicely. And just in case, I’ll keep Saint Hilary, patron Saint of snake bites, in my back pocket.

And if you happen to be in the market for a puppy, I know a girl.

    >This whole chaotic mess began when someone put out a pregnant dog at our house! And those crazy boys of mine couldn't come home without finding puppies in the woods!
They are sweet though. The only way they could be any sweeter would be if they were at new homes.
    Maybe soon!
    Anybody want one?Please.
